In a significant medical setback, Cordlife, a renowned private cord blood bank in Singapore, is currently grappling with a crisis. The Ministry of Health (MOH) has revealed that suboptimal temperature conditions have compromised the integrity of at least 2,150 cord blood units.  These units, crucial for potential future medical treatments, were stored in one of Cordlife’s tanks.

The Philippines is not doing well in the sustainable development goal (SGD) 3 due to the increasing childhood mortality in the country. During the 5th anniversary of the First 1000 Days Law (RA11146), Vicente Y. Belizario Jr. shared his thoughts about the Philippines’ status in achieving the childhood mortality goal. He said, “If we’re talking about sustainable development goals, the Philippines as a whole is not doing [well] on childhood mortality.”

The Department of Medical Sciences (DMS) and the National Health Security Office (NHSO) of Thailand have announced a new initiative that offers free screenings for newborns to detect 24 rare medical conditions. They designed this proactive move as part of a wider strategy to bolster the nation’s children’s health. Currently, the birth rate averages 1.4 births per woman, which contributes to an ageing population.
