Festival staff and dancers quickly assisted her, and she was escorted off the stage to receive medical attention. Her agency later confirmed that she was resting and recovering well.
In an Instagram post the following day, HyunA apologised to fans, writing, “I am really really sorry…I wanted to put on a good show.”
“From now on, I’ll try to develop more stamina and work hard consistently.”
HyunA’s Recent Health Changes
While the cause of her on-stage fainting is not confirmed, some netizens speculate that it may be related to her recent strict dieting.
Earlier in October, HyunA announced that she would be going on a strict diet. As an update on social media on the 4th of November, she revealed that she had lost about 10 kilograms in one month.
“It’s so hard to change the first digit from the 50s,” she wrote in the caption. “I still have a long way to go. How much have you eaten all this time, Kim Hyun-ah?”

At 1.64m, 49.88kg puts her at a BMI of 18.55, which is right at the l0w end of the normal range.
According to The Korea Times, HyunA have shared to have a history of vasovagal fainting and that her stamina plummets whenever her weight falls below 45kg.
It is noted that losing such a significant amount of weight in a short time can place stress on the body, especially when combined with an intense performance schedule and pre-existing health issues that HyunA may have.
Why Do People Faint?
Fainting, or syncope, happens when blood flow to the brain temporarily decreases, leading to a brief loss of consciousness.
What is Vasovagal Syncope?
Vasovagal syncope is the most common cause of fainting. It happens when the vagus nerve, which helps control heart rate and blood pressure, overreacts to certain triggers.
These triggers can include:
- Dehydration or low fluid intake
- Low blood pressure or blood sugar
- Fatigue or prolonged standing
- Emotional or physical stress
When that happens, blood pressure and heart rate drop suddenly, reducing blood flow to the brain and causing temporary loss of consciousness. After fainting, the person is then lying down – this helps the blood pump to the brain as gravity is no longer a factor.
While vasovagal syncope is usually harmless, recurrent episodes should raise concerns and prompt further evaluation, as frequent episodes may point to an underlying condition.
How Can Fainting Be Managed?
While fainting can be one-off and may have no medical significance, it may also be due to a serious disorder, such as one involving the heart. Therefore, it is important to treat the fainting spell seriously until the symptoms are resolved and the cause is investigated or known.
If you feel faint:
- Stay low – lie down or sit down, and do not be quick to get up. This helps reduce the chance of fainting again.
- Place your head between your knees if you are seated.
- Hydrate with water and/or electrolytes
- Avoid skipping meals and strenuous activity especially while overly fatigued
- Seek medical evaluation if fainting happens more than once
If you witness someone fainting:
- Position the fainted individual on their back
- Raise the legs above heart level if possible
- Loosen tight clothing and accessory to prevent limitation of airflow
- Check for breathing – begin CPR if the person is not breathing
- If the individual does not regain consciousness within 1 minute, call emergency services for help
In addition, safe weight loss should happen gradually at around 0.5 to 1 kg per week, while maintaining adequate nutrition, hydration and rest. Rapid reductions in body weight can cause fatigue, dizziness and poor concentration, while could possibly result in fainting spells.

HyunA herself reassured fans that she would “prioritise her health” moving forward. She also thanked concert-goers and staff who had helped her at the event.
“And I’m really okay! Don’t worry about me!” she added.
A Gentle Reminder
While HyunA’s situation may involve specific health circumstances not fully disclosed to public, anyone pursuing weight loss or working under intense conditions can stand to be informed about the possible stress on the body.
Listening to your body: resting when fatigued, staying hydrated, and maintaining steady nutrition is important. Fainting can sometimes be the body’s way of signalling that it has reached its limit, and it could be time to take the break it dearly needs.
