New partnership uses AI to improve oral health screening and diagnosis.
Aims to deliver better care, support community outreach, and accelerate dental research.
Partnership covers four initiatives benefiting children, seniors, and patients with orthodontic needs.
Singapore, Wednesday, 07 May 2025 – National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS) and Yuyi Dental Pte Ltd (Yuyi) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to partner and use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance population health screening and clinical oral health care. Built on a shared commitment to push the boundaries of dental care through cutting-edge research and innovation, the partnership will integrate AI-enabled digital innovations to make dental care more effective, efficient, and accessible at both NDCS and in the wider community.
Together, NDCS and Yuyi will drive four key initiatives focused on better care, early detection and prevention. Leveraging Yuyi’s innovative AI-powered device (the ‘iOoeli’), which comes with high-quality imaging and analysis capabilities to help enhance communication with patients and help to better track progress in their oral treatments.
The initiatives include:
- Early detection of gum diseases: A gumshield project that will help to detect early signs of gum disease (periodontitis) in high-risk groups in a timely manner
- Oral health research for children: More efficient data collection towards the Singapore National Child Oral Health Survey, which studies children’s dental health over time
- Tele-dentistry for seniors: Easier access to dental consultations through remote services for seniors in intermediate and long-term care settings like hospitals and nursing homes
- Orthodontic treatment support: Streamline the clear aligner treatment process and boost patient adherence to their treatment plans
Clinical Associate Professor Goh Bee Tin, Chief Executive Officer of NDCS, said, “By integrating AI-powered imaging into our clinical and population health initiatives, this collaboration moves us closer to a future of oral healthcare where intelligent technology and data-driven insights drive prevention, enable early intervention and deliver better care outcomes.”
“Technology and innovation are the cornerstones of this partnership,” added Ms Li Huamin, Chief Executive Officer of Yuyi. “By integrating AI and other advanced technologies, we are pioneering a new path in oral healthcare that prioritises prevention and improves accessibility for all Singaporeans.”
Through the partnership, Yuyi will establish the Oral Health Innovation Fund, and provide 100 iOoeli oral scanning devices as a start, contributing towards the use of technology in advancing Singapore’s oral health ecosystem. Yuyi also plans to establish a base in Singapore and collaborate closely with NDCS to work towards a future where high-quality oral care is accessible to all, contributing to a healthier and more vibrant society in Singapore.
