Participant collapses after completing the race, organisers express condolences.
A runner at the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2024 died after completing their race on Sunday, Dec 1.
The incident occurred shortly after the participant crossed the finish line. Despite receiving immediate medical attention on-site and being transported to Singapore General Hospital, the individual did not survive.
Organisers have refrained from disclosing the participant’s identity, citing respect for the family. According to reports from The Straits Times, The Singapore Civil Defence Force stated it received a call for assistance near 1 Marina Boulevard at about 7.15am, but confirmed that SCDF intervention was ultimately not required.
This marks the third death in the history of the event, which began in 2002. Previous fatalities occurred in 2011 and 2016, both linked to underlying heart conditions.
