A Singapore study using electroencephalography showed that infants who spent more time on screens had increased electrocortical activity and worse executive functions later in life, such as memory, attention, and inhibition, than those who had less screen exposure. The researchers warned that screen time in early life might affect children’s learning and behaviour.

The Albay Provincial Health Office (PHO) launched a deworming program for children and teens. They urged parents with children and teenagers aged one to 19 years old to participate. This was proactively done to safeguard the health and well-being of the younger population. Anthony Ludovice, the dedicated coordinator of the PHO Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) Program, passionately emphasised the significance of deworming. He also proudly announced their ambitious goal to deworm a total of 473,000 individuals. This initiative marks the beginning of their intensified deworming program. It commences this January and aligns with the country’s observation of National Deworming Month.

National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS) has recently launched a nitrous oxide sedation service, specifically designed to alleviate dental anxiety in paediatric patients. Nitrous oxide sedation is a lower-risk alternative to General Anaesthesia (GA), particularly for complex dental treatments. It offers mild sedation, making it safer for the respiratory system and blood flow. Another advantage is its rapid elimination from the body, allowing for a quicker recovery.

In a significant medical setback, Cordlife, a renowned private cord blood bank in Singapore, is currently grappling with a crisis. The Ministry of Health (MOH) has revealed that suboptimal temperature conditions have compromised the integrity of at least 2,150 cord blood units.  These units, crucial for potential future medical treatments, were stored in one of Cordlife’s tanks.
