On 11 August 2024, the Director of Nutrition and Maternal and Child Health, dr. Lovely Daisy, MKM, announced that this regulation prohibits the promotion of formula milk, which is stipulated in Article 33, as part of efforts to increase the success of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia. The regulation adopts the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes that has been introduced by the World Health Organisation (WHO) since 1981.

The Indonesian Pediatric Society (IDAI) discourages the use of powdered breast milk due to contamination risks. IDAI highlights the importance of direct breastfeeding for optimal infant health and development. They stress the irreplaceable benefits of breast milk’s nutrients and antibodies.

World Breastfeeding Week 2023, running from Tuesday 1st August to Monday 7th August is addressing the pressing need for improved breastfeeding support for working parents. The theme “Enabling breastfeeding: making a difference for working parents,” initiated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), calls attention to the hurdles faced by working mothers.
